THE NATIONAL TELEVISION ACADEMY ANNOUNCES THE NOMINEES FOR THE FIRST-EVER
ADVANCED MEDIA TECHNOLOGY EMMY AWARDS
Categories Were Created This Year to
Recognize New Media
Awards To Be
Presented as Part of the Annual
Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards
NEW
YORK, NY – September 16, 2003 – The
National Television Academy announced today the nominees for the
first Advanced Media Technology Emmy Awards which will be
presented as part of the annual Technology & Engineering Emmy
Awards. The ceremony will
take place at the Plaza Hotel in New York City on October 23, 2003.
With
these newly-created Advanced Media Technology Emmy Awards, the Academy
will, for the
first time, honor work being done in Interactive Television, New
Media and related programming and technology.
The
Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Media Technology
for the Enhancement of Original Television Content will recognize
work in areas of Advanced Media Technology that enhance or improve
programming intended for delivery and display by traditional broadcast
means, including: network, cable and satellite distribution. The Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Media
Technology for the Creation of Non-Traditional Programs or Platforms will
recognize work developed for delivery and display by non-traditional
and or non-linear programming, including: Systems,
EPG’s, User Interfaces, one-screen or two screen applications, CD-ROM,
DVD, computer and video games with broadcast components, etc.
“Emerging technology is reshaping the programming and viewing experience
of the consumer,” said Peter O. Price, president of the National Television Academy. “The creation of these two new awards acknowledges the important
new paradigm of advanced media.”

Technology and Engineering Awards worked with Marty Yudkovitz and
Shelly Palmer, new co-chairs of the Advanced Media Committee of the National Television Academy, to create the new award categories.Launched
in 1948, Technology and Engineering Awards honor development
and innovation in broadcast technology and recognize companies,
organizations
and individuals for breakthroughs in technology that
have a significant effect on television engineering. Winners of the 2003 Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards
will be recognized for excellence and contributions from
