DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES FOR BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL EMMY AWARD CATEGORIES EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 15.

On May 30, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced four new News & Documentary Emmy Award categories honoring business and financial reporting. The competition is open to any nationally broadcast news or documentary program dealing with a business, economic or financial topic.

Please note that the deadline for entries has been extended to September 15, 2003.

To be eligible, programs or reports must have been available to over 50% of national television households, and must have first aired during the fiscal year, July 1 to June 30, 2003.

Since many broadcasters may have entered business-related stories in other News & Documentary Emmy categories before the business areas were announced, for this year only, entries that were previously entered in the 24th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards and were not nominated may also be entered in this year’s Business Emmy competition.

Entry materials are available and can be obtained by visiting the News & Documentary Emmy Awards webpage at http://www.emmyonline.org/emmy/docu.html , or by contacting David Winn at 212-484-9424 or newsemmy@natasonline.com .

Below are brief descriptions of the new categories. We look forward to receiving your entries.

Outstanding Coverage of a Current Business News Story- This category honors
outstanding reporting on a major current business, financial or economic story. Entries may include breaking news and/or continuing coverage of a current story, and may consist of either a single report or a series of reports on a single topic. The event covered must have occurred between July 1, 2002 and June 30, 2003. Entry tapes may run no more than 15 minutes and include no more than three as-aired excerpts.

Outstanding Investigative Reporting of a Business News Story - This category honors outstanding investigative reporting of a business, financial or economic story. Entries should be original reports that uncover previously unknown information that is of importance to the public. Entries may include either a single report or a series of reports on a single topic. Entry tapes may run no more than 20 minutes and include no more than three as-aired excerpts.

Outstanding Interpretation and/or Analysis of a Business News Story - Good business reporting often stresses the reporter's analysis of a story. The emphasis in this category is on the ability, with or without graphics and file footage, to explain a current business news story in terms that the average viewer can understand. Entry tapes may run no more than 15 minutes and include no more than three as-aired excerpts.

Outstanding Documentary on a Business Topic - This category honors outstanding
long-form programming on a business, financial or economic topic. Judges will consider the originality of the presentation as well as the importance of the subject matter. Entry tapes may run no more than one hour and include no more than three as-aired excerpts

The Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the Rules and Procedures and to use the electronic entry forms. It can be downloaded free of charge at:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. If you are using Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4.0 or earlier we recommend that you upgrade to the latest version. This will allow you to enter long strings of text in the data entry fields.

The new electronic entry forms allow you to enter entrant information directly into the forms, and print hard copies to be included with your entry tape and check. You may use each form as many times as you like, but you cannot save the information entered (unless you purchase Adobe Acrobat Approval--about $40).

The cassette tape labels are formatted to fit Avery label template # 5199. Cassette box labels should be printed on regular paper and taped to the front of the cassette box.
