TIM RYAN
Tim Ryan is the assistant news director of 9News, KUSA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Denver. He started with the station in August 1991 as weekend assignment editor and subsequently held the posts of planning editor, assignment manager and managing editor before being named assistant news director in 2002. His career before that included five years at KAKE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Wichita, Kansas. He held a variety of jobs there including assignment editor, aviation reporter and fill-in sports and news anchor. Before that, in 1985-86, he was a reporter/photographer/anchor/assignment editor/producer at KFSM-TV, the New York Times-owned CBS affiliate in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
During his 12 years at 9News, he has participated in KUSA’s coverage of events including the visit of Pope John Paul II to Denver in 1993, the opening of Denver International Airport in 1995, the Denver Summit of the Eight in 1997, the Columbine High School tragedy in 1999 and the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games in 2002.
Ryan graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism in 1985 with a Bachelor of Journalism degree. In 1997 he completed a Master of Arts in history at the University of Colorado at Denver. His master's thesis described the history of Denver's Channel 9 from sign-on to the present.
He served four years as president of the Heartland Chapter of the National Television Academy before being elected the chapter’s national trustee in 2003. The National Television Academy is responsible for the presentation of Emmy® awards for excellence in television news, production and programming.
Ryan grew up near the small farming community of Milan, Missouri. He and his wife Brenda live in Aurora, Colorado, with their three children.
MARY BRENNEMAN
Mary Brenneman is principal/owner and creative director of Brenmary Productions, a communications company specializing in video production and communications services.
Before forming Brenmary Productions, Brenneman was the Executive Producer of News for Kids, which originally was a local production of KCNC-TV. Brenneman worked with a syndicator to successfully launch News for Kids in national syndication. Under her leadership News for Kids reached an average one million viewers per week and achieved a top ten ranking for television programs for children.
Brenneman was also the Executive Director/Producer for NBC Business Video, the entrepreneurial arm of KCNC-TV. Besides writing and producing numerous award winning video productions, she was also responsible for the distribution and sales of other KCNC projects including a half-hour television special about abandoned baby polar bears sales, which grossed more than $1 million.
She was Executive Producer of Assignment Colorado, a monthly television magazine at KUSA-TV. For Assignment Colorado she wrote and produced a wide variety of material including hour-long specials from Japan and China, investigative stories, dramatic recreations of Colorado’s legends, and Denver’s first music video.
Brenneman’s work has been recognized with numerous awards including Emmy®s, the Kellogg Award from the National Association of Broadcasters, the Cine Golden Eagle, Iris Awards from the National Association of Television Program Executives, gold and silver awards from the Houston International Film Festival and gold and silver medals from the New York International Film Festival and Emmy®s from the Heartland and Rocky Mountain chapters.
Brenneman serves as a national trustee for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and as co-chair of the national program committee. She is currently working on setting up national programs for NATAS on the internet.
She is married with two children.
